The Rise Of Browser Based MMORPGs

Ever since MySpace and Bebo grew, the online community has noticed a sharp spike in online engagement. Large companies have realized this and they have monetized on it. They have released social communities, engaging online e-commerce websites, created numerous blogs and most of all, introduced the world to real time online gaming.

Gaming on the web is not a new thing. Even back in the 80's, there were pure text based games called MUD. Thousands of gamers came together to fight mythical creatures and to solve puzzles. But all this changed with GUI was easy to implement into websites. A new age of online gaming where great graphics could be integrated into browsers allows the gaming community to play their favorite games with their friends from around the world.

Unlike large games like World Of Warcraft and Ragnarok, small browser based games that utilize 2D graphics captures the gamers interest because they are much easier to access. Any computer with an internet connection and a browser could be used to play these games. They are fun, engaging and extremely addictive. Players can complete quests, fight other players, collect items, trade with their friends and join clans. Some of these games have a sort of cult following where their players will do whatever it takes for those games to be popular. They rank these games on top sites, spread word through forums and interact with new players. These games have reached the peak of social engagement and they are almost run by the players themselves.

Some of the more popular games are Evony, Travian and Dark Orbit. There are literally thousands of these games in different genres.
